The Art of Nothing (Part 4)

The process that I discovered does not require that you envision a positive outcome, think positive thoughts, or generate positive emotions. It does not require belief or faith or any peculiar talent or skill. Nor does it require affirmations or intentions or a vivid imagination from which to build your detailed utopian future. All of these efforts take place in your mind. Calling on a distressed mind to fix itself is a lot like asking the fox to guard the hen house. It rarely ends up the way we think it should. To fix a broken mind, you have to step beyond the mind. That is the first thing I will show you how to do.

As you progress through this blog, be easy with the concepts and experiences you find here. Some of the concepts may be new to you. Just let them simmer for a while on the back burners of your mind. No need to pressure yourself or struggle to understand everything right away. The experiences you will have by practicing the easy techniques will fill in the gaps for you. They are simple and create a feeling of welcoming naturalness. Your experiences will support the concepts you learn. You don’t need faith or belief. It is necessary that you only follow the instructions and rely on your own experience for verification.

Despite its seemingly esoteric nature, what you are about to learn is scientific and reproducible. I am as eager to teach you these remarkable techniques as I expect you are eager to learn. So we will begin the first step of the teaching in the next blog section “How Nothing Works”. Once you learn the techniques and begin practicing on your own, I will introduce you to the science behind the technique. Then we will look into the science of enlightenment, what it is and how it works. We will see what scientists are saying about it and discuss the actual experiences of people who are enlightened, so that you will recognize those experiences when they appear in you. Together we will explore what it means to become fully human.

I expect you will enjoy cooperating with this blog immensely. It will offer you a simple yet profound message. By the time you finish the last post you will have learned that you are complete just as you are, right now. You will have discovered a secret that has been hiding in plain view. You will realize that your troubles have only come from looking in the wrong direction for solutions. It is as if you have been standing on a promontory facing the side of the mountain. I will simply ask you to turn around. From this new perspective, this exalted height will open your vision to greater possibilities and potential. Thread by thread, the mysteries of your life will begin to unravel. You will wonder at the simplicity of it all and take great satisfaction in knowing that you are OK, and will be OK, as understanding replaces confusion and joy replaces consternation.

What does all this flowery talk mean in everyday, nuts and bolts, practical applications? Here are just a few things that you will be able to do when you have finished this blog:

  • Enjoy more success and enjoy your success more
  • Begin healing yourself and others in minutes
  • Discover where you are, where you need to go, and how to get there
  • Find yourself and love what you find
  • How to make the right decision
  • The negative effects of positive thinking
  • Love yourself and find that love in others
  • Know what it means to be enlightened
  • Begin a 90-day program to decrease discord and increase success
  • Have fun

The Art of Nothing (Part 3)

Don’t you feel it? Don’t you feel that something seems to be missing, something basic and deeply primordial? Haven’t you ever asked yourself, “Is this all there is to life?” You may have asked this question in a quiet moment of reflection but then trampled it under foot on your way out the door to buy a bigger, brighter widget, find a sympathetic ear to bend, or indulge any of a plethora of electronic diversions to keep that tormenting question from resurfacing. It makes us uncomfortable because we don’t know what source gave birth to that question. More importantly, we don’t know how to satisfy it. But it is vital, not only to our mental health but for the survival of our species, that we find the source of this dis-ease.

In the short time that we spend together between the covers of this book I will offer you a revolutionary perspective on the current and precarious position that clearly defines why, despite our nearly infinite potential, we are foundering on the precipice of destruction. This new perspective is, in part, a rearrangement of existing research and theories that has created a new vision. It’s like rearranging letters of an old word to create a new word with greater depth of meaning. For instance, when you read the word “dog”, an image may pop into your mind of a hairy, four-legged, tail-wagging friend who enjoys the simple pleasures of life with you. Rearrange the letters d-o-g to spell g-o-d and you are confronted with the most profound mystery of life.

Knowledge is complete only when understanding is supported by experience. I will provide you both. Understanding what is wrong has little value unless you also learn how to fix it. This is particularly exciting as I have discovered a simple and natural process that has immediate results. What results? Why, I’m so glad you asked.

I have found a way to free your mind from the influence of negative emotions and thinking. Now, before you throw it into a heap with all of the other positive thinking, anti-judgment systems hear me out. What I offer you is uniquely and profoundly different. Traditional positive thinking systems require that you, well … Think positive. They tell you that if you can think positive then positive things will come to you. Most people find that this approach takes a great deal of effort to perpetuate and time to realize, with a high incidence of failure. In fact, recent neurological research (see QE Blog: Science – A New Direction [Parts 2 & 3]) indicates that a positive mental attitude is more the result of the individual’s natural make-up than manufactured happiness. Thinking positive thoughts has very little lasting effect on the psychophysiological structure of the individual.

The Art of Nothing (Part 2)

We have so much potential. Don’t you think so? My goodness, but what we can do. I could list the usual things like putting a man on the moon, the pyramids, heavier-than-air flight, and so on and so forth. Compared to the other species with which we co-habit this earth, our progress has been phenomenal. And we are continuing to grow, in so many ways, exponentially.

We are progressing by leaps and bounds. Look how far we have come in just the last 100 years. If you were to visit a city in the United States at the turn of the 20th century you would find people of the day heating by coal or wood, lighting by candle or gas, local locomotion by foot or horse, and the nightly contents of the chamber pot emptied each morning at the family outhouse. Poverty, illiteracy, social prejudice and injustice, and religious intolerance were the norm. But all that has changed dramatically.

The United States is the quintessential rags-to-riches story, but it doesn’t look like it is moving toward a happy ending. That is what this blog is about, happy endings, not for just the United States but for every individual in every country, from every race, spiritual orientation, educational background, financial standing, and level of personal health, on this Earth. Big words, I know, but what if I could actually back them up? Would the chance to realize your personal Utopia be worth the time it takes to read this little blog? If I am wrong, at the very least you can have a good laugh at the ravings of a madman. But if I am right …

We have vision and imagination and good intentions. We have come a long way from hunting and gathering, and still there is so much more to grow. But despite our overwhelming progress, we don’t seem to be satisfied. We seem to have bottomed out in the contentment department. But what is it that we are really trying to do? What is our endgame? When everything is said and done, what will we have … who will we be?

We have the survival thing nailed down. Let me amend that statement. We are experts at basic survival. Shelter and food and procreation are, for us, no-brainers. Don’t get me wrong. There are still pockets of poverty and strife, where one’s very life breath is threatened on a daily basis – but that is the result of local circumstances and not for lack of know-how. Yes, we are masters of basic survival, but oddly enough the survival of our species is in doubt. That’s because we were meant for a grander good. Don’t you think so?

The Art of Nothing (Part 1)

‘‘How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then to rest afterward.’’ ~Spanish proverb

Picture a world where you are following your innermost desires, doing the work that you are naturally drawn to do and love. It dovetails perfectly with your talents and interests. Your work regenerates you rather than tiring you out. Time flies by almost too quickly. Like the flickering splinters of a lit sparkler, creativity burns within you. You are self-motivated, take pride in your work, and feel like you are a cohesive and contributing part of a grander plan. You are complete. In essence you are living in accord with your natural talents and interests, at one within yourself and with your environment.

Now zoom out so that you are looking down on a city of people just like you. Each is a productive and prodigious part of a grander plan. With little conscious effort, each soul supports the other joyfully and with selfless purpose. Conflicts still exist but are resolved from a level of creative exuberance, joy, and playfulness. Distorting emotions and aberrant behavior are all but nonexistent. This city is not a place of individual minds, methodologies, and self-serving agendas. It is an entity unto itself. It is alive, a whole being, more than the sum of its parts, a vibrant reflection of the contentment and creativity of its inhabitants.

Now zoom out further so that you are looking down on the whole Earth, that liquid blue marble spinning silently, powerfully on its axis. Know that every individual of every city of every country is living in perfect harmony within Nature. We all have this vision of Utopia inside us. It came with us when we burst into this world and drew that first blazing breath of life into our lungs. It was there in childhood before we were taught our limitations. Then it was set aside, sequestered in the dungeons within, those dark places where we chain our most animated dreams until they tire and weaken. And there they slumber in the darkness, waiting. It takes but a single shard of sunlight to scatter the darkness and reawaken even our deepest dreams.

This is what you will learn in this blog. You will discover the sunlight that already abides within you. This is not something you must acquire. You do not need to train or travel. You already have everything you need to see that light. You need only look in the direction of the sun, and memory leaps to life becoming a living reality.

The Blue Jay Way

“A great silent space holds all of nature in its embrace. It also holds you.”

                                                                                               ~ Eckhart Tolle

“Not one sparrow falls from the sky that our heavenly Father does

not know about – so much does he love the creation he made.”

                                                                                                          ~ Matt 10:29

This may seem an obvious question but have you ever noticed how nature makes you feel good? Did you ever ask yourself why? We love to watch billowing clouds slowly transform into lions or gnomes or a blustery Uncle Fred. The power of the ocean draws us to its shore to watch waves tumbling over each other like playful kittens, only to surrender exhausted at our feet. We feel more complete, somehow more human, when we acknowledge nature. How does that work?

We humans are self-imposed prisoners of concrete and steel, cut off from the vibrancy of nature. We compensate by bringing plants and animals into our coffin like quarters, and it works, in part. Through them we are reminded of how we were in childhood when we were most like nature. But, what is it that nature has, or is, that we have lost?

Nature is our partner in evolution. It fluidly expresses, what we strive so hard to attain; effortless being. A bird acts without forethought or volition. A sparrow doesn’t say, “O.K., now I’d like to eat those berries but I’ve been gaining a little weight lately, maybe I shouldn’t. Besides, the purple ones give me gas and …” A bird naturally eats or doesn’t eat according to its nature. An elephant sleeps when it is time, a coyote hunts, a leopard leaps and a whale sings in perfect cadence with the singular beating heart of creation.

Nature is a tuning fork. It resonates at the perfect pitch for human harmony. It is always resonating, waiting for us, like a loving mother waiting for her children to return. When Nature does enfold us in her peaceful embrace the human mind gives up its mental toys and settles into the bliss of being purely human.

Then it happens. We prodigal sons and daughters of nature return the favor. We inspire nature to become conscious of its own existence; a completing of the Self-awareness circuit as it were, a reunion of Self with Self.

Several days ago I was leaving home for a meeting. I heard a rustle high in the tree overhead. My eye was drawn to a pair of blue jays flitting along the top branches. The male led the way to the next tree but the female hesitated as she looked at me, looking at her. She was ever watchful for predators, twisting her neck this way then that, in jerky motions as birds in the wild must. She cocked her head to one side for a long second and our eyes met again. This was no accident. She dropped down a few branches and began watching me more closely. I felt a strange sense of familiarity in her, an ancient camaraderie. I stood, neck bent, looking up into the branches. As she descended limb by limb, a sense of peace settled over me. She was less wary now, checking for threats only occasionally, content to calmly connect with me. By contrast her mate nervously scanned sky and earth while pacing between branches, giving little peeps and hurried chortles. But she remained steady on a branch now just above my upturned face. As I stood looking up, slightly swaying, she pulled one leg up under her and fluffed out her feathers looking like a blue-white snowman with one twig leg and two fathomless black eyes.

I don’t know how long we bathed in that communal silence, ten or fifteen minutes I suppose. I was the one to break it off. My neck was getting stiff and besides, I was now ten or fifteen minutes late for my appointment. I bade a silent goodbye to the jay, but what we shared could not be left behind. Our forms could separate and resume life in our alternate and alienated worlds. But we could not leave the silence behind; or the Knowing that had fathered it.

Walking away I turned to see if my friend was leaving too. She was, easily working her way back through the branches to console her harried mate. He met her among the leaves of the highest tree, scolded her lightly, looked both ways as if crossing a street, and flew beyond the roof of the building next door. Before following, she hesitated briefly and looked back over her shoulder. Our eyes met for the last time and stirred the still lively silence between us. Then she dropped into space, unfolded her wings and left our world behind.

Grumbling Your Way to Enlightenment

Let me take a moment here and refresh your memory as this hierarchy is helpful in understanding where you may be and what you are capable of. It’s comforting and even helpful to know where you are going but the “how” of fulfilling your greatest potential is paramount. That is why you are reading this blog. The Quantum Entrainment technique is the bridge between theory and practical application.

Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (from lowest to highest):

  • Physiological: breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, homeostasis, excretion
  • Safety and security: body, employment, resources, morality, the family, health, property
  • Love/belonging: friendship, family, sexual intimacy
  • Esteem: self-esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of others, respect by others
  • Self-Actualization: morality, creativity, spontaneity, problem solving, lack of prejudice, acceptance of facts

You are going to love this. Along with the ascending hierarchy of needs there is also an ascending scale of grumbling! Grumbling is a kind of low grade complaining. Basically, you grumble when you feel something is missing or needs adjusting. Maslow says man will always grumble. So now you can actually determine where on the scale of needs a person is by how he verbally vents his frustrations. You can monitor your own progress as you leave the lower needs levels behind. As your lower needs are satisfied you begin to grumble at a higher level. Isn’t that an interesting concept? And yes, even transcenders grumble. Let’s take a look at the different levels of grumbling.

  • Low Grumbling – physiological and safety needs
    • survival – food, shelter, clothes, illness, indignities, abuse, prejudice, cruelty, death related to survival
    • safety – work issues, financial issues, planning for the future, indignities, abuse, prejudice, cruelty, related to safety
  • High Grumbling – belonging and self-esteem needs
    • belonging – being misunderstood or accused, racial/gender profiling, comparing you to others
    • self-esteem – dignity, self-respect, respect for others, autonomy, feelings of worth, praise and rewards, receiving recognition for work
  • Meta-Grumbling – self-actualization/transcender
    • self-actualizer – inefficiencies in free flow of work, inaccuracies in information and communication
    • transcender – need for truth, perfection, beauty, imperfection of the world, injustice to others

It is in the last, or highest human need for self-actualization that we are most interested. What world does a self-actualizer live in? He experiences profound moments of love, understanding, happiness, and bliss. He feels more alive and whole and tuned into universal harmony. He naturally values goodness and truth and fair play. He has “being” awareness realizing that everything is perfect just as it is. Maslow calls these experiences B-values the “B” standing for being, a sense of oneness or unboundedness. Another word for being is stillness which you are now familiar with. You see, if you are doing QE and experiencing Eufeeling you are already strengthening your self-actualization.

QE Expanded My Heart (English/French)

There Is Only One Eufeeling (Part 1)

There Is Only One Eufeeling (Part 2)

Givers & Takers (Part Two)

So where is your Self? (In QE we called the Self – Eufeeling.) Well as it turns out it is everywhere all the time so you should be able to find it anywhere, anytime, right? You just have to be able to recognize it when you see it. That’s how I developed Quantum Entrainment. I first discovered my Self in the quiet reaches “within my mind”. Once I came to know my Self within I began to shake hands with it in every aspect of my outside life. I encountered it in the oppressive heat of a mid-August afternoon, the unabashed love shaken wildly from my dog’s wagging tail, the sting of a mosquito and the itch that followed, and in the stillness at the end of the day well lived. Giving flows effortlessly from a full vessel.

What are takers taking? They are taking anything they think will substitute for their Self. Material things, ideas, and emotions are all pale substitutes for the Self. They can bring no lasting satisfaction. Takers keep taking to fill their emptiness, not only a fruitless and frustrating exertion but most often dangerous to others and, most assuredly to themselves.

How do takers become givers? Not by trying to fill their emptiness for emptiness is an illusion. It is not in the doing but in the being. And what must a taker be? Aware! Being aware of Self as often as possible, in every situation, in every direction. Present awareness crafts an appreciation of the here and now. Worries of the future and guilt about the past are air. And air effortlessly empties as your vessel fills with the liquid love of Self-awareness. It takes some practice and some patience but results begin immediately.

What if you want to remain a taker? Do you have a choice? Not really. If you want to remain, for whatever reason a taker, your days are numbered. The momentum is with you now but it is changing. It has been slow, the 1% pushing against the 99%. But soon the illusion will lift and we will begin to discover, slowly at first and then with exponential momentum, how easy and joyful it is to be a full vessel and to share that fullness with all. It really is our only option for if you win, we all lose.

Givers & Takers (Part One)

All the people inhabiting this beautiful blue marble spinning in the blackness of space can be broken into two groups; givers and takers. The takers, according to Abraham Maslow, are those who are scaling his pyramid of needs. And what do you suspect is the goal of all this climbing and clambering? Why, to reach the pinnacle and become self-actualized. Once they reach that most exalted capstone, takers become givers. (Note: Maslow refers to givers as Transcenders. See past posts: They Are Among Us Part I & II / Why Can’t I Love? Part I & II)

Whether they know it or not, anyone who is breathing is endeavoring to become a giver. I know, given the deplorable state of human affairs, I must sound like I just fell off the turnip truck. But there is no doubt about it. If we are not already a giver we are trying to become one. It doesn’t look that way because so many of us are takers, 98% to 99% of us are still clawing our way up that damn pyramid. But there is light at the end of the tunnel or, maybe I should say a beacon at the pinnacle of the pyramid.

If your goal is to become self-actualized then it is actually quite easy once you get the hang of it. First, you have to know what your Self is, right? I mean, if you don’t know what the goal is how will you know when you have reached it? Do you think your Self is a better paying job? Is it finding someone who understands you or realized by eliminating that debilitating backache? Of course not! If you are looking for your Self where it is not that I can guarantee you won’t find it there.

(Join us for Givers & Takers, Part Two where we will discover where your Self is hiding, why takers take, and what you can do about it.)

Where Did We Come from and Where Are We Going? (Part II)

We already have everything we need to transition into a more loving and supportive lifestyle. But how do we do that? First, we become aware of who we are in our fullness, our being. That is easily accomplished because that too is hardwired; a genetic pathway bequeathed us by those very first humans who balanced the stress of survival with the quiet bliss of personal introspection, complemented by a more intimate socialization. It can easily be accomplished with nothing more than a simple shift in perception.

By perception does not involve the mental – emotional activities of the mind. This “shift in perception” does not require training or talent, belief or hope. Try this simple exercise and you will see what I mean:

Look at something disagreeable or chaotic like garbage or rotting flesh, someone who is sick or suffering, or even rush-hour traffic. Become aware of how that perception makes you feel. Then immediately look up into an open sky and become aware of how that makes you feel. (Either a day or night time sky will work equally well. If the sky is not handy, then look at something you know to be pleasant or harmonious. Something from nature is helpful or even a picture can work.)

When you perceive an open sky it feels good. You do not have to convince yourself or try to think positive thoughts. The good feeling automatically comes with your shift in perception from disharmony to harmony. When you learn to perceive your inner Self, which is like perceiving an open sky but so very much stronger, your outer life will also reflect that harmony and peace automatically, without any effort on your part. This is how Quantum Entrainment® (QE®) works. It involves a simple shift of perception from the chaos we experience every day to that most harmonious and loving part within each of us. This is our “being” aspect. When you cannot sit by a quiet pool and gaze into an infinitely deep cerulean sky you have QE®.

Second, we apply the basic principles of growth and transformation. This is our becoming aspect.  As it turns out this is also easy, and as it turns out fun. The Kinslow System™, which also embraces Quantum Entrainment®, will guide you in your being and becoming, your transition to phase 3 living, where competition and control give way to mutual support and universal love.

Let’s explore together our ideas and experiences and our vision of the future of humankind. It’s time the human race laid the cornerstone for its transition into a more loving and fulfilling future. We have everything we need… Why not start right here, right now?
